Program Overview
Health in the Hood’s focus is building urban vegetable gardens and teaching health education in food desert communities. We work in underserved neighborhoods to grow fresh food, and teach families about healthy living and urban farming. We are currently serving 250-300 families per week through our Food Pantry.Health in the Hood does a twice weekly Pantry on TUESDAY and THURSDAY MORNINGS from 9:30a until food runs out.We offer two methods to obtain groceries:Drive Up: waiting line starts on Ali Baba Ave and lineup begins at 7:00am in front of Opa-Locka Train Station to the Amazon Facility.Walk Up: Waiting line begins on Sidewalk South of Pantry. Line Opens at 7:00am. A ticket system is currently in place, you can get a ticket at 7:00 am and return at 9:30am for distribution.Health in the Hood has numerous volunteer opportunities available both at the Pantry and in our Community Gardens.
